Kathy Jarvis, a Louisville resident, is benefitting from the latest, innovative technology for knee pain. This month, Dr. Carroll Witten became the first and only physician in Louisville to perform the new patient-specific and minimally invasive procedure called the iUni. The iUni is a disc implant made of cobalt chrome used to add cushion and protection against damaging bone on bone joint knee pain.
For almost a year, Jarvis struggled with walking after a serious fall during Hurricane Ike. She was not able to move or stand up without being in excruciating pain. On June 1, Witten implanted Jarvis' own, personalized and custom-made knee implant. Now, she is able to walk and stand up without any pain which she said, "Is always a pleasant surprise." Recovery for the minimally invasive procedure is approximately 24 hours. Jarvis walked out of the hospital the following day and experienced no knee pain.
